Stories of Hope

Dedicated to Karen
Originally this was dedicated to my friend Karen, who lost her battle in 2005, just weeks before she intended to walk with me in The Weekend to End Breast Cancer in Vancouver. She still "walks with me" every year :)
Perpetual Flight
On my shoulder rests a
butterfly tattoo
with a pink ribbon threading through –
It is about the size of a breast removed
and it reminds me of
lives lost, lives saved.
Its permanency on my skin
celebrates and appreciates
the fragility of life’s brief appointment.
She said before she died,
That’s how she would visit. Now
every butterfly I see is a sign
of life renewed.
I do not have to wait –
Its imprinted here like fate.
Fight with me
and we will win this war.
Eventually.
